Thanks to Those Who Serve our Country- Including Dogs

Brave dogs have aided US soldiers in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars. Dozen of dog breeds have served in the US armed forces, including the all-American mutt. Modern military working dogs are mostly German Shepherds, Dutch Shepherds, and Belgian Malinois.

Labrador and Golden Retrievers are also used as specialized search dogs because of their fantastic noses. Thankfully, dogs don’t need to be close to sniff out a bomb. Their keen sense of smell lets them detect a bomb from 50 feet away. While preparing a dog to be a bomb detection expert can cost over $150,000, that cost is noting compared to the price of keeping our soldiers safe.

Today there are over 1,600 Military Working Dogs stationed around the world.
